I would never imagine that there will be a day for me to hate Bambi. Yes, the very cute, big eyes deer in the cartoon. But if you ever experience country life in Pennsylvania, you would know what I mean.
Northeast Pennsylvania has so many deers wondering around your property, those deers are so smart, they only like to eat those tender flower buds, not the ferns, dandelions, or weeds that you want to get rid of.
I tried everything, Deer Off ($18 per bottle), or home made solution (tabasco with soap detergent), it does not matter, deers eat thru those defense mechanisms.
This all starts 2 years ago, Leo and I bought a very small cabin in the upper Delaware River region. I was so excited about the possibility of having a garden. I started looking at the garden catalogs before I even closed the sales transaction. Never mind me that I have never owned a garden or plant a flowers in my entire life.
My first purchase was a small 1 feet tall camellia. I planted it next to the cabin to celebrate the purchase of this small cabin. A week later, my camellia had no leafs and buds left on the branches. We immediately went to Home Depot and bought a fence. It was this rubber green fence that I circled the plants with a cover over it. I can barely see the branches. It has been 2 years now, there was nothing still. Now, I just got myself a bunch of burning wood that costs me $20 (the cost of the camellia, and $10 for the fence).
But during these 2 years since we own the cabin, I was determined to find the type of flowers that deers do not like (deer resistant, that is how the label would say at Home Depot or Lowe's). After getting bit by black flies (only in April and early May), mosquitoes (all the time) and annoyed by gnats (all the time) from planting and replanting flowers because these deers eat these flowers and leafs after all, I finally had enough.
This past weekend, I drove to Lowe's and bought the materials for the fence. Leo and I built the 10 x 12 structure with 6 feet high wire. It took us about 10 hours building it. ( it is on the slopes, not very easy). I am very proud of both of us because I have never built anything in my life before.
Now, I can plant anything I want. Until I find the next obstacle.

Maybe you should open a restaurant right next to your cabin to scare them away......
