I had a wonderful get together with my family this past weekend at the Le Pain Quotidien in the Central Park. I am so glad that at last there is a decent cafe in the park. This location used to be a cafe as well and it sold crap and the bathroom was disgusting. Who wants to only eat packaged sweets and hot dog in the park? my goodness. Anyway, In the past few years, some of my relatives would come into New York City in the fall and we would have a family reunion. It is getting difficult to stay in touch with everyone when people have busy life and live far away. Or sometimes, you just don't want to be bother by your family members even if they live in the same city (it's okay to be like this. Now, I am getting older, I feel that there is no need to please everyone. I would rather spend time with people I care about!).
One of my aunts who carried these Asian pears all the way from southern New Jersey. She is over 70 years old!! The crazy part is that she did not want to take a ride with my other aunt who drove into the city. This 70 years old aunt decided to take the New Jersey Transit and got lost in the city ( her own fault, she did not get the direction right). Then when we called her, she told us that she would find us in the cafe in the Central Park (how the hell is she going to find us when she told us that she is lost? good grief). Then she got lost more for another 2 hours when I was standing in front of the cafe, freezing. In the end, she took a taxi to my apartment. I don't get very stubborn people.
When my aunt opened the bag and showed us that she brought us 20 Asian pears (each weight about 1 lb). That was very sweet of her but I would say not so wise for carrying 20 lbs all over the city. She picked those pears in a Taiwanese farmer in Cranbury, NJ. Those are so juicy and sweet!! But lord, people are nuts in their own way.
