This past weekend was gorgeous. The weather was getting cooler but nice. We had a great weekend at the cabin with few of our close friends. Leo grilled the Santa Maria style tri tip that I bought at the Trader Joe's and we had Riesling and cabernet Sauvignon for dinner. Life is great when I had good food and good wine. It was so relaxing!
Then we came back to the city and I was immediately stressed. Dealing with anything delivery and you have to sign for is super stressful. And dealing with delivery from the Home Depot can just make you want to shoot yourself. The delivery was scheduled between 10 to 2. So I took the baby with me (no Leo) in the baby bjorn. In my jacket. there were 4 diapers, 8 oz of baby formula, burping clothing, wallet, keys, and cellphone and I was all set for the baby for the next 4 hours. So we started waiting at the lobby of the new apartment from 10 a.m. At 11:40 a.m., the truck driver called and said he should be at the site in 30 minutes. 30 minutes came and gone and no delivery truck. Then 1 hour later, I called the Home Depot and was transferred from the delivery coordinator to customer service to the assistant supervisor who asked me to hold and I was on hold for awhile, the call was rerouted to the customer service again and finally to contracting (oh, finally someone transferred me to the right party). By the time I spoke to the contracting about the situation the fifth time, I was already furious. Then this contracting person told me that the delivery truck could not deliver today because the flat bed was too big to park on the one way street. ARE YOU SERIOUS? After I just waited for 4 hours. The delivery guy said that because there is a school in front of the building and the teachers are parking in the school zone so he wanted to reschedule to Saturday. Why? because there will be no car parked at the school zone. WHERE ARE YOU FROM? Everyone and their mother can park in the school zone during the weekend in front of this building. Am I talking to a truck driver who delivers only in Oklahoma. This is New York City, most of the streets are one way street and there are cars park on the both side of the streets. I really had it.
During these 4 hours while I was waiting in the lobby, I must met all the tenants in that building. I am not sure why dealing with the Home Depot has to be this stressful. Maybe because everything is so compartmentalized, so once you finish one transaction with one person, he or she can't help you for another thing. Ordering, paying, delivery schedule, and contacting delivery person are done by different people. And sometimes, they are on their lunch break or dinner break when you call.
That is the modern life of dealing with the big corporation. I guess it could be worse. I could be talking to the customer service in India. Sigh.....
